After turning professional in 2017, Hughes and Cheng quickly established themselves as formidable competitors on the international beach volleyball circuit. Despite a brief separation in 2018 to explore individual growth, their reunion in late 2022 marked the beginning of a new chapter. Within a year, they won the World Tour Final title and clinched the World Championship in October 2023, solidifying their status as world champions.
Their qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is a testament to their hard work, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the sport. For Kelly Cheng, the Olympics present an opportunity to showcase her growth and achieve her dream of Olympic gold. Sara Hughes, making her Olympic debut, brings a lifelong ambition to represent her country on the grandest stage, inspired by her idol, Misty May-Treanor.
